Underground Storage Tanks Plant Installation

Underground LPG/Propane storage tanks are horizontal pressure vessels designed for the pressurized storage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)/Propane at ambient temperatures. In underground storage facilities, these tanks are typically buried in concrete pits and covered with sand or another inert material to ensure they remain underground.

Underground LPG/Propane storage tanks installation are more space-efficient than spheres or above ground bullets, owing to the reduced vessel-to-vessel spacing and the smaller safety distance required between the above ground storage vessels and structures such as control rooms, buildings, Firefighting system and roads. Additionally, Underground LPG/Propane storage tanks offer the potential for partial or complete off-site construction. These bullets are installed on concrete saddle/pedestal foundation, which distribute the load evenly to the underlying concrete saddle/pedestal.

POSITIVES ASPECTS

  • LPG Underground Storage Vessels are fully covered with soil, with only the manhole and other nozzles protruding.
  • The risk of BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion) is eliminated, as fire is not possible beneath the tanks.
  • Underground storage vessels have reduced fire case PSV loads compared to above-ground storage tanks and spheres.
  • The fire water requirement for Underground storage is lower.
  • The Underground protects the vessels from heat radiation from nearby fires, pressure waves from explosions, impacts from flying objects, and sabotage.
