  • Testing of Petroleum Storage tanks under Petroleum Rule 2002.
  • Testing Pipeline – NDT, Iso-metric, Hydro-testing etc.

Important Stages for Hydrotesting of the Vessels & Horton Spheres (Non-Cryogenic)

Hydrotesting, or Hydrostatic Testing, is a critical procedure used to verify the structural integrity and leak-tightness of Vessels & Horton Spheres, which are typically used to store pressurized gases like LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), Propane, Propylene, Butane, Ammonia, Ethane etc.

Here's a general Sequence for hydrotesting:

  • 1. Product Transfer & Depressurizing
  • 2. Degassing
  • 3. Disconnecting all the nozzle connections and instruments.
  • 4. Arrangement of Scaffolding & Flameproof Lightings as per requirement. (If required)
  • 5. Thorough cleaning of the inner surface with water jet and clearing the sludge/ rust materials.
  • 6. Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) according to SMPV (U) Rule 2016.
  • 7. Check the settlement during water filling & emptying in the storage.
  • 8. Hydrotesting
  • 9. Fixing back all the nozzle connections and instruments.
  • 10. N2 / Product Vapour Purging (As applicable)

The Significance of Preventive and Statutory Testing

  • Detects potential issues or defects before they escalate into major safety concerns.
  • Prevents accidents, injuries, and damage to equipment or property.
  • Guarantees that storage tanks and pipelines are safe for use and comply with regulatory standards.
  • Preserves the integrity of bulk storage tanks, pipeline ensuring their long-term reliability.
  • Reduces the risk of leaks and the associated dangers of fire and explosion.
  • Ability to detect weaknesses, ensure compliance with regulations, and provide quality assurance makes it an indispensable part of quality control and risk management programs.
